About This Recipe

Peach cobbler is simple comfort: sweet fruit bubbling under a tender golden topping. The goal is soft peaches, thickened juices, and a top that is crisp at the edges.

It works well with ripe summer peaches, but the same method can also be adapted when good frozen or canned peaches are what you have.

Ingredients

  • 5 peaches
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar ((150 g))
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 Tablespoons butter ((85 g))
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour ((120 g))
  • 1 cup granulated sugar ((200 g))
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk ((180 ml))
  • ground cinnamon

Ingredient Notes

  • Peaches: Use ripe but not mushy peaches so the filling stays bright.
  • Sugar: Adjust slightly depending on how sweet the fruit is.
  • Thickener: Flour or cornstarch helps the juices turn syrupy.
  • Butter: Butter gives the topping flavor and helps the edges brown.

Instructions

  1. 1

Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. u2028*(If using canned peaches, skip steps 1 & 2 and follow the directions starting at step 3)

  2. 2

Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and helps to bring out juices from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside.

  3. 3

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice butter into pieces and add to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats, to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the oven.

  4. 4

In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer.

  5. 5

Spoon the peaches and juice (or canned peaches, if using) over the batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.

  6. 6

Bake at 350 degrees for about 38-40 minutes. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.

Katy’s Kitchen Note: Let cobbler rest after baking so the fruit juices thicken before you spoon it out.

Katy’s Kitchen Tips

  • Taste the peaches before adding all the sugar.
  • Bake until the filling bubbles around the edges.
  • Cover loosely if the topping browns before the fruit is hot.
  • Serve warm for the best texture.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Berry peach: Add blueberries or raspberries to the filling.
  • Spiced: Add cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom.
  • Less sweet: Reduce sugar slightly if peaches are very ripe.
  • Crunchy top: Sprinkle coarse sugar over the topping before baking.

What to Serve With Easy Peach Cobbler

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a spoonful of Greek yogurt.

Storage and Reheating

Refrigerate leftovers for up to 4 days.

Reheat in the oven to revive the topping, or microwave for a softer dessert.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Underbaking: The filling should bubble so the thickener activates.
  • Too much sugar: Very ripe peaches may need less.
  • Serving immediately: Resting helps the juices settle.
  • Using watery fruit: Drain canned peaches well if using them.
