Oven Baked Beef Ribs

Oven Baked Beef Ribs cooks seasoned protein until browned outside and tender in the center.
About This Recipe
Oven Baked Beef Ribs needs good browning and a gentle finish so the center stays tender.
Let the protein rest briefly when needed so it slices or serves cleanly.
Ingredients
- ✓3 lbs beef short ribs ( (Choose meaty ribs with good marbling and with the bottom membrane scored or removed))
- ✓Liquid smoke ((optional for added smoky flavor))
- ✓2-4 tablespoons olive oil
- ✓1 tablespoon garlic powder
- ✓1 tablespoon onion powder
- ✓1 tablespoon cajun seasoning
- ✓2 tablespoons dark brown sugar (packed)
- ✓1 teaspoon chili powder
- ✓1 teaspoon paprika
- ✓2 teaspoons oregano
- ✓Favorite BBQ Sauce (I only used a few tablespoons of Sweet Baby Ray's)
Ingredient Notes
- Protein: Choose pieces that are similar in size.
- Seasoning: Rub or sprinkle seasoning evenly on all sides.
- Browning: Use enough heat to develop color without burning.
- Resting: Rest briefly so juices settle.
Instructions
- 1
Rinse ribs and dry COMPLETELY with paper towels. Douse dry ribs with liquid smoke if using, and rub it in.
- 2
Lightly coat ribs in olive oil. In a small bowl, mix the rib rub seasonings and sprinkle generously over ribs, front and back. (You don't have to use all of the seasoning mix)
- 3
Massage the spices into the ribs, adding more olive oil to help distribute the spices well if needed.
- 4
Place the ribs in a large ziplock bag or covered bowl and place in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
- 5
Preheat the oven to 250 F.
- 6
Place the ribs on an aluminium foil-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
- 7
Add another piece of foil on top and create a pouch for the ribs to cook in. Be sure to seal the edges of the foil so that it's tight and steam won't escape.
- 8
Bake on the middle rack for 3½-4 hours. Check on it after the 3 1/2 hour mark. The oven temperature is very low ,so you can afford to cook it a bit longer without worry.) .
- 9
When the ribs are done to your liking, drain off the excess fat.
- 10
Brush the ribs with your desired amount of BBQ sauce.
